Note: - When we install Active directory in the server 2008 system. Active Directory installation assign five operations master role to that domain control.
And each role has its own functionality in Active Directory function. Some works domain wide .And by default global catalog server store all the five master roles. Global catalog server store original copy of its belonging hosting domain partial copy of other belonging domain with the name of forest so global catalog server is a master searchable database
And our primary domain control & first domain controller act as a global catalog server.
Five operation master roles of the directory are:-
  1.   >   Schema Master Role
  2.   >  Domain Naming Master Role
  3.   >  RID Emulator Master Role
  4.   >  PDC Master Role
  5.   >  Infrastructure Mster Role
*Schema Master Role -> Schema Master Role defines accepts of classes of attribute of active directory. When we install exchange server installation extend the active directory schema & add new classes & attribute. Schema master role send this information into the entire forest.
*Domain Naming Master Role :- Responsible to joining it works forest wide (It works in forest )
* RID (Relative Identification Master Role):- When a new domain controller will be added into forest then RID master role gives valid identification to that user.
*PDC Emulator Master Role: - It provides communication between NT4.0 to 2008 PDC (Primary Domain Control).
*Infrastructure Master Role: - It is responsible to maintaining all the user information’s or other password information’s.
